-- update RM v5.0.10 > v5.0.11 --

Conclusion for Windows XP64 pro and sun java se/re v1.6.0_22:

0] install via: rapidminer-5.0.010x64-install.exe
1] update via:  RapidMiner.exe
2] do not use launcher.jar for updates
3] execution directory for launcher.jar should be handled
  with care e.g.: RapidMiner5\lib  or  RapidMiner5\

Details:

0] most up-to-date versions of RM for 64Bit windows I've found
  via: http://sourceforge.net/projects/rapidminer/files/
  are: a] rapidminer-5.0.010.zip
         b] rapidminer-5.0.010x64-install.exe

1.a] unsolved rollback problem updating from rapidminer-5.0.010.zip
    - <double-click start> RM via: rapidminer\lib\launcher.jar
    - note: execution dir will be: rapidminer\lib\
    - update only RM >help/update/RapidMiner 5.0.11
    - install, accept, restart
    - nothing happens (almost like R-Extension loop of death)
      http://rapid-i.com/rapidforum/index.php/topic,2716.0.html
    - after starting RM twice, it is rolled back to 5.0.10.

1.b] RapidMiner.exe fixes 5.0.11
    - install via: rapidminer-5.0.010x64-install.exe
    - <double-click start> RM via: RapidMiner5\lib\launcher.jar
    - note:  execution dir will be:   RapidMiner5\lib\ since RM is
      here:  C:\Program Files\Rapid-I\RapidMiner5       (default)
    - update only RM >help/update/RapidMiner 5.0.11
    - install, accept, restart
    - nothing happens (almost like R-Extension loop of death)
      http://rapid-i.com/rapidforum/index.php/topic,2716.0.html
    - after starting RM twice, it is rolled back to 5.0.10.
    - but starting: RapidMiner.exe fixes RM & runs v5.0.11
    - any further starts of launcher.jar are fixed v5.0.11

working for now  :)

    Hi,
to say it shortly: The automatic update can only work if you start RapidMiner using the binary .exe files on windows or the script files from the /bin directory. This is because you will need a second program that overwrites RapidMiner with the downloaded new version. This cannot be done by RapidMiner, because no program can overwrite itself.

    Greetings,
      Sebastian
