Datamining 101

JibJabJabJibJabJab Member Posts: 3 Contributor I
I'm a real newbie to data mining, meaning all I knowso far are some very basic SPSS functions.

So my question is: What are you guys suggesting are the best sources to get deeper into it?
I'd be especially interested in real world tutorials, like mining websites for word frequencys and so on.
The closer they are related to Rapidminer, the better. Books in german or english would be fine too.
Thanks  :D

    Hi,

you mean beside our training courses, right?  ;)

You could have a look at the web site of Tom (Neural Market Trends):

Another resource is the web site of Michael:

In the future we plan to offer more web based tutorials and even videos but currently we have nothing like that. For now, I would suggest to have a look at the online tutorial available from the "Help" menu of RapidMiner to get a quick start - although this is tutorial is probably more appropriate for users having at least a basic understanding of data mining. And finally, you can of course always post questions here in the forum.

    Cheers,
    Ingo

If you read the examples contained in the Text Plugin, you will be able to do that.

Besides going through the tutorial and examples, I would suggest that you get your hands on real data. For example, there are several Data Mining competitions around the world. You can download the Dataset and build a solution using RapidMiner. Also, there are tons of free datasets, you can work on.

Here is a link where you can get lots of datasets:

Here you can find the Data Mining Competitions. They are fun and you can win prizes ;)

    Have a lot of fun
