RapidMiner using TeamViewer

Hello,

This might or might not be related to the functioning of RapidMiner software, but I have one issue when accessing rapidminer through team viewer.

I access my work (lab) PC using TeamViewer when I am away. If I turn off my display, the RapidMiner software will be blank, and I cannot see any options as shown in the below image. The left image is RM, and right is Matlab at the same time. This only with RapidMiner as I can access Anaconda, Matlab, etc. at that time. If anyone can provide inputs on this issue, it would be very helpful as I cannot keep my monitor on when I am away.

I use a dual monitor (Dell Infinite Edge) display on Alienware Aurora R7 (1080TI and Intel i7 8700k) with windows 10 (64 bit)

Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Varun

Hi Varun, can you seup your Lab machine so that you can connect to it with RDP instead? I have been using RDP for years and there are no issues with using Rapdiminer remotely.

    Hello Alex,

Thanks for responding. Yes, I can setup my machine. I will setup RDP and will try that. Actually, i am not aware of this until you mentioned, thanks for the input.

I second using RDP in Windows. However, I consider both RDP and VNC unnecessary nowadays. What you probably need is a VPN if you need to access a server or cluster in your workplace, the rest you can do in your own computer at home if you synchronize the data with Dropbox or similar.

You can also have a RM Server running on your workplace or in the cloud.

@varunm1 in the past to work around this problem I have done what @SGolbert just suggested, which is simply to create an AWS instance and run RapidMiner Studio on that.  Then I can access it from anywhere and I don't even need to keep my primary PC powered on (which both TeamViewer and RDP will require).  I can also start and stop that instance so I am only really paying for it when it is being used.  You can even connect that instance to your RapidMiner Server (I also use AWS for that) so you can completely work in the cloud!

Thanks, @SGolbert and @Telcontar120 for your inputs. I will try creating an instance, the problem with a remote (Teamviewer and RDP) connection is some times I am away and the system gets turned off and I cannot control. I will work with your solutions.
