You can install the latest 9.1.0 R scripting extension from the market place in rapidminer. I dont think there is any specific variant requirement for this based on documentation below. Studio

Hi,

for the R back-end the only important dependency is that you are able install the "data.table" package. The latest version requires only R 3.1.0, so any recent version is fine.
